Accomplishments

Leadership History

  • Served as Mayor Pro Tempore (2023-2024).
  • Chaired/Co-Chaired/Served on various committees, including Public Safety,  Finance and Audit. Joint Food System Policy Board, Joint Water & Climate Policy, North Central FL Regional Planning Council 
  • Alachua County Library Board of Governors and the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization.
  • Founded the Gainesville Alliance for Equitable Development.
  • Received the Rosa Parks Quiet Courage Award (2022) and the Mahulda Gussie Brown Carrier Influential Women Award (2024).
  • Gainesville Community Redevelopment Agency - Fifth Avenue/Pleasant Street Advisory Board (Vice Chair)

Infrastructure Improvements

  • Initiated and completed the installation of a light and crosswalk at East University Ave.
  • Installed bollards at the 8th Avenue convenience store.
  • Improved ADA accessibility of sidewalks along NE 8th Avenue and throughout East Gainesville.
  • Installed a new Duval Community Sign.

Public Safety

  • Declared gun violence as a public health crisis in Gainesville, securing unanimous support.
  • Formed partnerships with Alachua County Board of Commissioners, Santa Fe College, and other institutional partners.
  • Hosted Gun Violence Town Hall at the 1st annual Summit & Gun Violence Town Hall with City, County, Santa Fe College and over 1100 participants

Community Development

  • Championed the Equitable Development Framework, focusing on affordable housing, economic development, historic and cultural preservation, and development without displacement.
  • Achieved unanimous commission approval for the framework to complement the comprehensive plan.

Special Projects

  • Advanced the East Gainesville Cultural Arts Center project to promote economic development, violence prevention, public health, and arts and culture.
  • Initiated a Cultural Arts Center pilot at Duval Elementary.

Economic Initiatives

  • Worked to attract grocery stores to East Gainesville, initiating discussions with Hitchcock’s Grocery Store.
  • Secured funding for the Heirs Property Program.
  • Promoted equity in the City of Gainesville procurement policy.
